Only if it is deemed necessary. Most of the time, a pit is not necessary to house lift tables as they can comfortably and easily sit on the floor and are anchored (optional) securely to the floor with bolts. Burying the lift in a pit is an option if you want to have the materials at floor level when loading them on to the platform, in the case of a dock lift scissor lift. There are other options in this case such as ultra low lifts that are flush against the ground, or with the use of ramps, etc…
